In such trying times, a great responsibility tends to lay in the hands of a few over-looked heroes and in the course of this pandemic it has become evident that this burden rests on the front-line workers leading the defence against COVID-19. So, this International Nurses' Day, which also happens to be the 200th anniversary of Florence Nightingale's birth, Royal Docks Digital would like to take the opportunity to show our appreciation for the hard-work being carried out by health-care workers across not just the UK, but the world. We're sure that each household has been taking part in the weekly applause for the NHS, but what more can be done to give back?
1. Check Up on Neighbours - Helping at-risk people with daily errands, like shopping or picking up a prescription at the pharmacy, can help take the strain off health-workers by ensuring that vulnerable individuals aren't exposed to the virus. It also helps out delivery drivers, supermarket workers and volunteers at hospitals by increasing the number of people who are socially-isolated.
2. Call Distanced Relatives - A secondary implication of this necessary quarantine is the loneliness of people that live by themselves during this time. Give a call to old friends, classmates and relatives to make sure that everyone is well and have a good catch-up!
3. Volunteering - There is a whole lot of content available on the internet on safe volunteering. Its something that the whole family can take part in and it will look great on your CV or personal statement. See what volunteering opportunities are available near you and get started!
4. Spreading Awareness - Do you have a favourite charity or organisation that is making a difference during this pandemic? Why not give them a shout-out on your social media to encourage your friends and followers to support them, allowing them to continue to make a difference.
5. Keep Safe! - The most important way to help others during this time is to help yourself. If you get sick, there's not much that you can do for anyone else. Wash your hands often and for 20 seconds at a time, keep at least two meters away from the people that you're helping and if you have a new, persistent cough or a raised temperature STAY HOME!
The blogging team at Royal Docks Digital wishes everyone a safe lock-down, and again extends a special thanks on behalf of the whole school to the key workers guiding our way through these unparalleled circumstances.
